Cowboy Ethics

Photograph by David R. Stoecklein

What kind of person does it take to get up in the middle of the night, saddle up his horse, and go out into a raging blizzard to rescue a calf he doesn't even own?  This photo, titled Hero of the Storm by David Stoeckleinshows a cowboy doing what needs to be done, without regard for his personal comfort and safety, because he lives by an unwritten code, with principles like honesty, honor, courage and loyalty at its heart.

Cowboy Ethics by James P. Owen, now in its eighth printing, highlights the values that are our heritage, regardless of our politics, religion or economic status.  The message of the book is simple, and it has power and hope.  Although it was originally written for Wall Street, the idea at its core is that movements start with individuals who want a better, truer, more heroic life.

I think society in general could learn something from the way many real "cowboys" live their lives.....what others lack in integrity, honesty and good ol fashioned basic work ethics, cowboys more than make up for.....we know a good friends son who attended Deep Springs, a college for very intellectual kids that basically educates the students while living the life of a cowboy on a working farm....we thought at one time of our middle son going too, as we were so impressed with how our friends son turned out who is now at Oxford working on his masters. There is something about that lifestyle that is worth taking note of! Great video!

I am a big fan of this book! (and a a big fan of you also!)

The man who wrote it is a friend ! He used to live here; he now lives in Texas! It is a brilliant book, and he wrote it well before Wall Street abandoned all ethics! He probably saw it coming!
