Seducing America

Fans of Downton Abbey and the Edwardian era,

will find much to love in the paintings of Swedish artist Anders Zorn, one of the most influential portrait artists of the period.

A contemporary of John Singer Sargent, he was extremely successful, earning a vast fortune painting society portraits between 1860 and 1920.

Selected works are showing at the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston from February 28th to May 13th, 2013.

I have a signed Anders Zorn etching:

but I had never seen his oils. Very reminiscent of Sargent as you say, and just as wonderful. Thank you for this post.

Anders Zorn clearly captures more than just the beautiful clothes the people are wearing. The first girl looks like she might have an attitude not unlike Mary of Downton Abbey. Thanks for sharing.
