The Elegant View of David Fuller

Aristotle opined that we are what we repeatedly do.  "Excellence, then," he said, "is not an act, but a habit."

One visit to TheFullerView.tumblr.com, and it becomes obvious that for David Fuller, excellence is something that happens every day.

And with just a click, we too can be privileged citizens of his elegant world.

With boundless style and a flawless eye, David consults on visual merchandising, product development, and brand positioning.

He also uses his photography and graphic design skills to create archives of branded images for his clients to use on their own blogs, social media,

 websites and print campaigns.

The Fuller Collection is a cultivated range of personal stationery and photography which he hopes to expand to include goods curated from other creatives.

His images are genteel, aristocratic even,

and describe a life of exquisite serenity, privilege and beauty.

But the world of David Fuller is also welcoming, comfortable and kind,

and that, at the heart of it is his message.

That grace, goodness and beauty can "inform our minds and inspire our souls."

What is so charming about David is his complete lack of pretension.

His photographs are breathtaking, but he insists that he is not a professional photographer.

His singular ability to cultivate collections illuminates our understanding and appreciation of life, like the very best art, poetry and music, and yet he says that he is not an artist.

“I actually started the tumblr site as a convenient place to post my own photos alongside the work I admired from professional photographers.  I would compare my images to theirs and challenge myself on composition and so forth.”

David describes his background in merchandising as a key factor in his creative success.

The experience he gained working with talented artists, fashion designers, photographers and art directors creating visual communications for iconic businesses such as Ralph Lauren, Coach, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, and Samsonite, helped him acquire the disciplines and intuition that have developed into a finely tuned understanding of what people respond to visually.

Ultimately what sets David apart is his character, his kindness and his ability to express the values of his clients through his work, as well as, I imagine, his own.

In this recently completed project for the Trinity Boston Foundation, David said that he specifically chose "a non-traditional size for the annual report so it would feel more like a marketing tool with a longer reach than just an annual report.  Our hope is this will make others wish to be a part of such a vital organization."  His clients, he is delighted to say, were thrilled.

A native Bostonian, David tells me that sharing his view of the world he sees every day is his expression of gratitude for time spent in a place he loves.

"I believe we live up to the standards of our surroundings, in people, and places.  A life immersed in grace, goodness and beauty raises the bar.  Like music, poetry and literature- the visual arts inform our minds and inspire our souls.  The environments we choose, and the ones we create matter- these spaces refresh and renew us for the journey to reach our potential.”  David Fuller

Love Fuller's message! It is good to be reminded of it. It's at the heart of what we designer's strive for. There are days when it is hard to keep it in our sights. Thanks for the lift!

Cheers,
John

Hi John, thank you for that thought, you are so right. David wrote me a note this afternoon and noted that we often go through life and wonder if what we do matters. I wonder that too occasionally, but it is true that many people are inspired by beautiful work, even if they don't think to tell you. (BTW, your projects are terrific.) xo, N.G.

I am always amazed by his work. I am a huge TUMBLR person, much much more so than Pinterest, and I first saw his work there. I follow him, of course. He is an artist in the truest sense of the word, his sense of style, elegance, form & beauty are superior. I LOVE this post. Really love it! He deserves accolades X10. So nice to have a visit from you guys today, thank you so much. xx's

I think so. I think it must be one of the signs that one is a professional. I'm reading two extraordinary books right now on my Nook that you might like by Steven Pressfield called, "The War of Art," and "Turning Pro." I think I'll put them up on this post. Very illuminating and uplifting, let me know what you think if you read either one. I love your work for your eye for quality and simplicity. I spent ages on your blog when I first discovered it! xo, N.G.

A beautiful piece on a very talented man. I have one of his prints being framed now and it is stunning! I cannot wait to hang it. In my conversations with him, I found him to not only be modest but gracious and generous, too. David is a complete gentlemen. Thank you for sharing!

One of our responsibilities as interior designers is to take people to places they didn't even know they needed or wanted to go. So much of that is wrapped up in the beauty around us and how it touches us - many times in ways we are not even aware of. Keeps Sally and me going when there is chaos all around us. The stuff and things are secondary and actually simply/easily fall into place. We have had the very good fortune to work work with several wonderful clients these past few years. Without them and the trust they convey to us, those projects would not be nearly as successful.

I have loved each and every David Fuller / tumblr post I've come across. I always imagined he was a professional photographer and that this was his venue for sharing some of his work. I'm thrilled to know more about him. I will visit his shop after this. You nailed what his images do for people. I always feel encouraged and enlightened when I see his images. They [his photographs] give me hope in a world that sometimes feels like there is more sadness than good.
Thank you for this introduction.
Enjoy your weekend.

What beautiful photos!

I'm particularly obsessed with the picture of the bed draped in blue and white toile and checks. Do you know who designed it?

Thank you,
Nancy

Dear Nina and All,

I've been genuinely touched by Nina's words and each of these appreciative comments. Floored, would be more accurate.

Residing over on Tumblr, feels a bit like sitting at the kid's table on Thanksgiving Day - missing out on the grown-up conversations over at 'blogspot'. Being a part of it has been a treat.

Thank you so very much.
