Eagles and Horses

I was thinking today about how, when I was a kid, sometimes I would go outdoors and run and run and run, just for fun.  I see my horse do that too on beautiful days like today, when she is feeling exuberant.  That's how this video made me feel.

Animals don't watch TV while they walk on an indoor treadmill, hoping to make the time go faster.  They don't calculate calories burned or maximum heart rate or worry about having the latest gear- they play and they move for the sheer pleasure of feeling their own glorious freedom and power.  We could take a lesson from children and animals.

I had never heard this song before, and thought I would share it with you.  The animation in this video is quite fantastic.  For anyone into horses, you know what I'm talking about.  Watch how the animators captured that characteristic head shake at 1:18 in the animated video above, and compare it to the gray going over the jump in the video below at about 2:02.  In horse language that means something like, "Yeah, baby, let's go!"

Have a happy Sunday!

The same John Denver song, great footage.

What a great post; I haven't heard that song in years. I was watching my dog, Kevin, enjoying himself this morning and then basking in the sun and it gave me such a good feeling to watch him. Love the video, horses are truly the greatest athletes! Happy Sunday.

Hi, I haven't seen it, but it looks really exciting. The animation is quite something else, don't you think? N.G.

Hi! Thanks! What a gorgeous day wasn't it? I've watched both videos over and over since I posted them. John Denver's songs always make me remember things. Whenever I hear Calypso I remember watching Jacque Cousteau specials on our little black and white TV as a kid. So great you stopped by! N.G.

I love this. My daughter evented with our grey horse and what a rush it was to even watch it, while she was beaming from ear to ear. Lovely post..Horseowners GET IT.

So true Nancy! So true- Don't you just feel so fortunate to be touched by horses? It never ceases to inspire wonder that they allow us into their graceful world. I'm reading a great book by Neurosurgeon Allan J. Hamilton called "Zen Mind, Zen Horse: The Science and Spirituality of Working with Horses." In it he says, "“I was drawn to horses as if they were magnets. It was in my blood. I must have inherited from my grandfather a genetic proclivity toward the equine species. Perhaps there's a quirk in the DNA that makes horse people different from everyone else, that instantly divides humanity into those who love horses and the others, who simply don't know.”
