Cherry Blossom Watch

The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 20th to April 27th, with the expected peak bloom between [Edited: March 18th to the 20th.  Our weather has been unseasonably warm, so this is the latest forecast as of March 13th].  Peak bloom is defined as the dates on which 70% of the blossoms will be open on the Yoshino cherry trees surrounding the Tidal Basin.

This year, we'll celebrate the centennial of that first gift of 3,020 cherry trees from Japan to the United States in 1912.

Nina...I am thinking, that once you get your collage of pink cherry blossom photos together, you should create a post around bringing that colour pink into our lives. If anyone can do it, you can..I am already thinking about one of your posts on bed sheets. I have a silk bathrobe that colour...I wish I could carry on the theme. hint hint.. :)

Thanks for the great idea Jeanne. Pink is quite wonderful isn't it, for lifting spirits? Those trees in bloom remind me of ball gowns.

Pigtown Design- Hey Meg, they are blooming! Can you believe it? They are saying today that if we don't get some cooler nights (below 50) to slow them down, they may peak closer to the 20th. The earliest on record was March 17 in 2000.

I do love the glow the trees seem to give in your images. I hope to get to our capital someday to view them myself, meanwhile, thank you for sharing this.

How absolutely gorgeous. I've never been to Washington during the blooming, but I hope to make it there to see this wonder in person some day.

I'm so sorry I haven't been blogging. I've had computer issues and am on Mr. Magpie's work computer tonight. Don't know when I am going to have a chance to get a new one because I am deep in life stuff... Adelaide's husband had a triple bypass (unexpected), and another friend's husband is in the final days of pancreatic cancer. I have had no time to blog which I miss SO much.

I hope to be back by the end of spring. I miss you and all of my blogging friends. Your blog is always a highlight with me.

Wishing you all the best...

XO,

Sheila :-)
