Petty Officer John Tumlinson was one of 30 U.S. Service members killed in August 2011 when their Chinook helicopter was shot down by the Taliban. Petty Officer Tumlinson and 21 other members of the elite Seal Team Six were racing to assist a unit of U.S. Army Rangers pinned down by gunfire.
His dog Hawkeye, who stayed by his side throughout the funeral service, somehow expresses the sadness and devotion we feel for these brave members of our military.
This Memorial Day, we thank the United States Service members all over the world, who care so deeply and give so much to protect us from those who would take away another's freedom.
